## About Stick No Bills

Stick No Bills is a stencil typeface: each letter is cut by narrow gaps where a real stencil would need bridges to hold its shape. In the specimen the letters are tall and condensed, with straight sides, flat terminals and breaks at the top and bottom of round forms such as O, C and a. According to the official notes, the Latin was first made by Mooniak as the brand typeface of the Stick No Bills poster gallery in the Sri Lankan city of Galle; the project was later opened up and a matching Sinhala set was added. The family is a variable font with a weight axis from 200 to 800 and seven named weights, ExtraLight to ExtraBold. Its 852 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended and Sinhala. There is no italic.

## Where it works

- **Poster titles**: The face started as a poster gallery's own lettering, and its narrow letters fit long titles across a sheet.
- **Sinhala and English signage**: A Sinhala set drawn to match the Latin lets a bilingual sign keep one stencil look.
- **Stamped and sprayed effects**: The stencil breaks suggest crates, street marking and spray paint without any added texture.
- **Brand systems built on one stencil**: Seven weights from ExtraLight to ExtraBold let a logo, a tagline and small labels share the same cut letterforms.
- **Tight headline widths**: Condensed proportions fit more characters per line than a regular-width face at the same size.

## Things to know

- **Stencil gaps are part of every letter**: The breaks do not switch off. At text sizes they turn into noise, so this is a heading and signage face.
- **One variable file**: The download is a single variable font covering weights 200 to 800; the seven named weights are positions on that axis.
- **No italic**: The family has seven upright styles and no slanted version.
