## About Poetsen One

Poetsen One is a display face with the look of letters painted with a round brush. Strokes are thick with rounded ends, the letters lean forward a few degrees, and details such as the curled tail of y, the looped k and the single-storey g come from sign writing rather than from a drawn sans. Its makers name two sources, the hand-painted signs found in supermarkets and the roman structure of classical alphabets, and that second source keeps the proportions regular. Because the x-height is large, they note that it also works for short paragraphs at fairly small sizes, not only for big titles. Poetsen One is a single static style of 446 glyphs in Latin and Latin Extended character sets. Rodrigo Fuenzalida and Pablo Impallari are the designers, and the font is under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 with Poetsen as a reserved font name.

## Where it works

- **Price signs and offers**: The model is supermarket sign painting, and the thick figures and percent sign carry a price from a distance.
- **Food and drink packaging**: Rounded brush-like strokes give a product name a friendly, hand-made tone.
- **Titles for children’s content**: Soft stroke ends and a forward lean make headings lively without becoming hard to read.
- **Short blocks of copy**: A large x-height lets a few lines of text stay legible at modest sizes, as the designers intended.
- **Stickers and social posts**: The dense black shapes hold their outline over photos and coloured backgrounds.

## Things to know

- **The slant is built in**: There is no upright version; the forward lean seen in the specimen is the only style.
- **One heavy weight**: The file is labelled Regular 400 although the letters are bold, so there is nothing lighter to pair it with inside the family.
- **Reserved name**: Poetsen is a reserved font name under the license, so modified versions must be renamed.
