## About Nova Mono

Nova Mono is a fixed-width typeface with a constructed, rounded geometry. Its designer writes that the Nova fonts go back to NovaCut, an alphabet of capitals and digits he drew years earlier for inscriptions on stone and moved to the computer in 2010; alternate letter shapes then became six fonts, and Nova Mono was added last as the monospaced seventh. The specimen shows the family trait clearly: the capitals M and N are built from arches instead of diagonals, strokes keep one thickness, corners are rounded, vertical strokes end in slanted cuts and the zero is slashed. The font is a single Regular style, not a variable font, with 1,331 glyphs across Latin, Latin Extended and Greek. Wojciech Kalinowski is the credited designer, the copyright line reads wmk69, and the license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

## Where it works

- **Code with a distinct look**: Fixed widths and a slashed zero do the practical work, while the arched M and N give listings an unusual texture.
- **Sci-fi and game interfaces**: Constructed, rounded letters of one stroke thickness fit readouts, HUD labels and terminal screens in fiction.
- **Technical headings**: Set large, the arch-built capitals turn a section title or product code into a display line.
- **Greek and Latin tabular data**: A Greek character set in the same fixed width lets formulas, symbols and bilingual labels align in columns.

## Things to know

- **Unconventional M and N**: The capitals M and N are arches, close to enlarged lowercase forms, which can slow recognition in running text.
- **Regular only**: There is one weight, Regular 400, and no italic.
- **Large glyph set for one style**: The font has 1,331 glyphs, with Greek alongside Latin and Latin Extended.

## FAQs

### Is Nova Mono free for commercial use?

Nova Mono can be used in commercial work at no cost under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The license also permits changes and redistribution, but the fonts cannot be sold by themselves and modified versions must remain under the same license. Read the license text for the exact terms.

### Who designed Nova Mono?

Nova Mono is credited to Wojciech Kalinowski. The copyright notice in the font uses the name wmk69.

### Is Nova Mono part of a larger family?

Yes. Nova Mono is the seventh Nova font, after NovaCut, NovaFlat, NovaOval, NovaRound, NovaSlim and NovaSquare, and the only monospaced one.

### Is Nova Mono good for programming?

Nova Mono is fixed-width with a slashed zero, but it has a single weight and its arch-shaped M and N are unusual, so it is a matter of taste for long sessions.

### Which languages does Nova Mono support?

Nova Mono includes the letters needed for English and other Latin-script languages such as German, French, Polish, Czech, Turkish and Romanian, as well as Greek.
