## About Major Mono Display

Major Mono Display is a monospaced display typeface in which every character occupies the same width and every letter is a capital. It carries two alphabets. Typing in lowercase gives a thin, even-stroked geometric sans; typing in uppercase gives constructivist display characters, where the specimen shows A as an open triangle, B, C, D and E as solid black blocks, and other letters split by diagonals or built from half-circles. Mixing the two cases in one word therefore mixes outline and solid shapes, as in the family name itself. The zero is slashed, and the official notes mention further OpenType features beyond the two basic sets. The font has one style, Regular, and 716 glyphs for Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese. Emre Parlak is the designer.

## Where it works

- **Large web headings**: The official notes single out playful web typography at big point sizes as the main use.
- **Posters built on a grid**: Fixed character widths align letters in columns, so stacked lines form a regular grid.
- **Logos with one accented letter**: Typing a single capital drops one solid constructivist shape into a word of thin capitals.
- **Album covers and event identities**: Triangles, half-circles and blocks give a title the look of an abstract composition.
- **Tech and studio landing pages**: Monospaced thin capitals recall terminal text while staying decorative.

## Things to know

- **Capitals only**: Both cases produce capital letters. There is no conventional lowercase.
- **Case switches the design**: Lowercase input gives the plain sans; uppercase input gives the display forms. Text pasted in normal sentence case will start each sentence with a display letter.
- **Monospaced but drawn for display**: Characters share one width, yet the thin strokes and decorative capitals were drawn for large sizes, not for code listings.

## FAQs

### Is Major Mono Display free for commercial use?

The license also permits modification and redistribution; the font cannot be sold on its own, and derivatives remain under the same license and may not use a Reserved Font Name without permission.

### Who designed Major Mono Display?

Major Mono Display was designed by Emre Parlak.

### Why do capital letters look different in Major Mono Display?

Major Mono Display stores its plain sans capitals in the lowercase positions and its constructivist display characters in the uppercase positions, so the Shift key switches between the two designs.

### Is Major Mono Display good for coding?

Major Mono Display is monospaced, but it has capitals only and decorative uppercase forms, so it is intended for display typography, not for reading code.

### Which languages does Major Mono Display support?

Major Mono Display includes the letters needed for English, French, German, Spanish, Turkish, Polish, Czech, Romanian, Vietnamese and other Latin-script languages.
