## About Freeman

Freeman is a condensed display sans serif in the gothic tradition, drawn heavy and narrow so that many letters fit into one headline. Its stems finish in slanted cuts instead of flat ones, visible in the specimen at the tops of b, d, h and k, a detail the official notes connect with handwriting. Counters are kept open for a face this dark, and the stems were tuned for rendering as bold display type in web browsers. There is one style, labelled Regular 400 even though it looks bold, and no italic. The font holds 1,571 glyphs across Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese, and the notes add African Latin to that list. The name table credits Vernon Adams, Aoife Mooney and Rodrigo Fuenzalida, with Fuenzalida named as manufacturer.

## Where it works

- **News-style headlines**: Narrow, dark letters pack a long headline into a single column width.
- **Event posters with long titles**: The condensed width leaves room for dates and names beside a title set large.
- **Video thumbnails and social graphics**: The stems were adjusted for screen rendering, and the heavy colour stays readable over photographs.
- **Campaign headings in several languages**: With 1,571 glyphs, the same headline style works in Vietnamese, Turkish, Polish and other Latin-script languages.
- **Section banners and labels**: Capitals of even width stack neatly in short labels and navigation banners.

## Things to know

- **One style, named Regular**: The only style is registered as Regular 400 although the drawing is as heavy as a bold. No lighter weight or italic exists.
- **Not a variable font**: Freeman ships as a single static file.
- **Wide Latin coverage**: The official notes list Western, Central and South-Eastern European languages, full Vietnamese and African Latin.
