## About Fjord One

Fjord One is a serif typeface conceived for the pages of printed books, above all for long passages in small print. Viktoriya Grabowska gave it a robust build: strokes change little in thickness, serifs are heavy and wedge-like, and ascenders and descenders are long in proportion to the x-height. The specimen adds detail to that description. The j and the capital J swing well below the baseline, curves have a slightly squared, chiselled turn, and the numerals are old-style figures of varying height. According to the official notes the design draws on both renaissance and contemporary typefaces, and its detailing lets it serve for headlines and corporate design as well as for text. The family has one Regular file with 272 glyphs and a Latin character set. The copyright belongs to Sorkin Type Co, with Fjord and Fjord One as Reserved Font Names.

## Where it works

- **Text for printed books**: Low contrast and heavy serifs survive small sizes on paper, the setting the face was designed for.
- **Essays and long articles**: Long ascenders and descenders give lines distinct word shapes over many paragraphs.
- **Headlines with texture**: At display sizes the chiselled curves and the deep j become visible and give a heading its own character.
- **Corporate identity**: The official notes name corporate design as a use; the firm, low-contrast letters reproduce reliably in small logos and stationery.

## Things to know

- **No italic or bold**: Fjord One has one style, Regular 400. Long texts that need emphasis or titles of works have no italic to turn to.
- **Old-style figures**: The numerals in the specimen rise and fall like lowercase letters and are not meant for aligned tables.
- **Latin subset only**: The 272 glyphs include the letters needed for English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish and the Nordic languages.
