## About Didact Gothic

Didact Gothic is a sans serif typeface built around the letter shapes children usually meet in their first years at school. In the specimen the lowercase a and g are single-storey, the o and c are close to circles, and the strokes keep an even, fairly light thickness with almost no contrast. The family consists of one Regular style; there is no bold, no italic and no variable axis. Its 1,244 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended, Cyrillic and Greek, so the same plain forms carry across three scripts. Daniel Johnson drew the original design, and according to the official notes Alexei Vanyashin of Cyreal reworked the whole font in 2017. The files are published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, and the family was added to Google Fonts in 2011.

## Where it works

- **Early reading material**: Single-storey a and g match the shapes pupils are taught to write, which is the purpose the design was made for.
- **Worksheets and classroom posters**: Round, open letters in one even stroke thickness stay clear when set large on handouts and wall displays.
- **Language-learning resources**: Latin, Cyrillic and Greek sit in one file, so vocabulary lists in Russian or Greek keep the same letter style as the English text.
- **Captions and short labels**: The light Regular sets short notes and labels; with no bold in the family, emphasis has to come from size or colour.

## Things to know

- **Regular is the whole family**: Didact Gothic ships as one Regular 400 file. Bold and italic cuts do not exist.
- **Revised in 2017**: The official notes credit Daniel Johnson with the first design and Alexei Vanyashin at Cyreal with a full revision in 2017.
- **Three scripts, no Vietnamese**: Subsets cover Latin, Latin Extended, Cyrillic, Cyrillic Extended, Greek and Greek Extended. Vietnamese is not included.
