## About Cormorant Unicase

Cormorant Unicase is the unicase member of the Cormorant display family. Typing lowercase produces a mixture of shapes at small-capital height: a, e, m, n, t and u keep their lowercase forms, while the other letters appear as small capitals, and true capitals stand taller beside them. The drawing is that of the wider family, with hairline serifs, strong contrast between thick and thin, and old-style figures. According to the project notes, Cormorant was inspired by the legacy of Claude Garamont, yet most glyphs were drawn from scratch rather than traced from an existing font. This cut comes in five static weights, Light 300 to Bold 700, without italics, and holds 2,280 glyphs across Latin, Latin Extended, Cyrillic and Vietnamese. Christian Thalmann of Catharsis Fonts, based in Zurich, designed and produced it, and it is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

## Where it works

- **Titles and chapter openings**: Mixed lowercase and small-capital forms turn a plain title into a band of even height with taller initials.
- **Logos and monograms**: The unicase a, e and n give a brand name a recognisable texture without custom lettering.
- **Perfume, wine and cosmetics packaging**: Hairline serifs and high contrast read as refined when printed large in Light 300 or Regular.
- **Invitations and menus**: Old-style figures and five weights cover names, dates and courses in a single display style.
- **Cyrillic headings**: The 2,280 glyphs include Cyrillic, so Russian, Ukrainian and Bulgarian titles can use the same cut.

## Things to know

- **A display cut**: Thin hairlines and the mixed-case alphabet are made for large sizes; the Cormorant family has ordinary roman cuts for text.
- **No italics here**: All five styles of this cut are upright. Italics exist elsewhere in the Cormorant family.
- **Static files**: Each weight from Light to Bold is its own file; there is no variable version in the package.
