## About Charmonman

Charmonman is a script typeface for Thai and Latin drawn in the manner of pen calligraphy. The Latin letters lean to the right, with a small x-height set against very tall ascenders and long looping descenders: f, g, j and y drop well below the baseline, and the z in the specimen ends in a long horizontal flourish. Capitals carry entry swashes, and several lowercase letters link to their neighbours. Strokes stay fairly even in thickness, closer to a rounded pen than to a pointed nib. The family has two styles, Regular and Bold, each with 781 glyphs. Cadson Demak is credited as the designer, and the font's name table names Ekaluck Peanpanawate. Latin Extended and Vietnamese character sets sit alongside the Thai.

## Where it works

- **Thai and English invitations**: Both scripts are drawn in one calligraphic hand, so names and headings can appear in Thai and Latin on the same card.
- **Names on certificates and place cards**: Swashed capitals and the long tails of g and y make a single name the focal point of the line.
- **Menu and packaging titles**: The Bold style holds its thin connecting strokes when a title is reversed out of a colour or printed on textured stock.
- **Short quotations**: A phrase of a few words shows off the tall ascenders; Regular keeps the lighter, more written look.

## Things to know

- **Long extenders need room**: Ascenders and descenders reach far above and below the small lowercase bodies, so lines of Charmonman need generous line spacing to avoid touching.
- **Two weights, no separate italic**: Regular and Bold are the only styles. The design is already slanted, and no upright or italic variant exists.
- **Thai is part of the font**: The Thai script is built into both styles; it is not a Latin script font with fallback Thai.
