## About Carattere

Carattere is a formal script typeface drawn by Robert Leuschke. Every letter leans to the right at the same angle, and the strokes swell on the way down and thin to hairlines on the way up, as in writing with a pointed pen. The capitals carry the decoration: A, M, N and Q begin with loops or long sweeping entry strokes, and several end in a small ball. The lowercase is narrower and plainer, with short joining strokes, so words stay readable once the capital has set the tone. Numerals share the slant and include a looped ampersand alongside them. The family is one Regular style and is not a variable font. Its 624 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese characters. The official description presents it as an italic style for invitations and other formal work.

## Where it works

- **Invitation headings**: The looped capitals and even slant give names and event titles a formal handwritten look on printed invitations.
- **Place cards and name settings**: A first name in Carattere starts with a swash capital and continues in compact lowercase, so it fits a narrow card.
- **Certificates and menus**: Short section titles such as course names read clearly because the lowercase is plainer than the capitals.
- **Vietnamese and Central European names**: The 624 glyphs include Vietnamese and Latin Extended accents, so accented names do not fall back to another font.

## Things to know

- **One style only**: Carattere has a single style, Regular 400. No bold or lighter cut exists for emphasis.
- **Capitals are not built for all-caps lines**: In the specimen the capital alphabet set as one line overlaps: the swashes of neighbouring letters run into each other.
- **Latin scripts only**: Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese are present. Cyrillic and Greek are not.
