## About Bungee Shade

Bungee Shade is a display typeface in which every letter is a white-faced capital ringed by a thin outline and backed by a solid shadow that falls down and to the left. It is one of five variations of Bungee listed in the official notes, alongside the plain Bungee, Hairline, Inline and Outline. The family pays tribute to city signs, where space is short and words often have to run upward, so the alphabet was arranged to stack vertically as well as read across. The shapes in the specimen are square-shouldered and blocky, with slab-like ends on I and J; lowercase keys return the same capitals. David Jonathan Ross, an American type designer, leads the project, and Google and The Font Bureau supported its release. Bungee Shade has one Regular style and 1,049 glyphs covering Latin, Latin Extended and Vietnamese.

## Where it works

- **Shop signs and window lettering**: Bungee was modelled on urban signage, and the built-in shadow imitates dimensional sign letters without extra effects.
- **Vertical banners**: The family was arranged so that letters can stack upward, which fits tall narrow formats.
- **Event and sale posters**: Outlined capitals with a block shade make a short word stand off the background.
- **Layered titles with Bungee**: Bungee Shade shares its skeleton with the plain Bungee, so the two can be combined in one title treatment.

## Things to know

- **Capitals only**: Lowercase input is drawn as capitals; there is no mixed-case setting.
- **Shadow is part of the glyph**: Outline and shade are fixed in each letter and print in a single colour, as in the specimen.
- **Needs size**: The thin outline around each letter thins out quickly when the type is small.
