## About Atkinson Hyperlegible Mono

Atkinson Hyperlegible Mono is a monospaced family in which every character occupies the same width. The specimen shows how much the design works to separate similar characters: the zero carries a slash, the capital I has top and bottom bars, the lowercase l ends in a curved tail, and the lowercase q has a short spur at its foot, so strings such as O0, Il1 and qg are hard to confuse. Letterforms are otherwise plain, open sans serif shapes with large counters. The family is built as two variable fonts, upright and italic, each with a weight axis from 200 to 800. That yields seven named weights from ExtraLight to ExtraBold and 14 styles. Each font holds 380 glyphs covering Latin and Latin Extended. The credits list Braille Institute, Applied Design Works, Elliott Scott, Megan Eiswerth and Letters From Sweden.

## Where it works

- **Code editors and terminals**: Fixed-width letters align code in columns, and the slashed zero and tailed l separate characters that matter in identifiers.
- **Passwords, serial numbers and IDs**: Distinct shapes for 0 and O and for 1, l and I reduce misreading when a code has to be copied by hand.
- **Tables and logs**: Because all characters share one width, figures and timestamps line up without extra formatting.
- **Syntax themes with weight contrast**: Seven weights from 200 to 800 plus italics let a theme mark keywords, comments and strings by weight and slant.
- **Technical documentation**: Inline code and command examples stay distinct from the surrounding prose.

## Things to know

- **Variable files only**: The package holds two variable TTF files, upright and italic. The 14 static instances are not included here.
- **Weight range stops at 800**: The axis runs from 200 to 800: there is no Thin 100 and no Black 900.
- **Latin only**: Latin and Latin Extended are covered. Cyrillic, Greek and Vietnamese are not included.
