## About Athiti

Athiti is a sans serif family that sets Latin and Thai in one informal voice; the name means the Sun in Thai. The Latin, as the specimen shows, is slightly narrow, with open shapes and stroke endings cut at an angle like the trace of a pen. The official notes tie this to humanist calligraphy: rounded outer curves meet more angular inner counters. The Thai is loopless, a simplified informal style, and the notes warn that several Thai letters resemble one another, which matters in very short texts. Six static weights run from ExtraLight 200 to Bold 700; there are no italics and no variable file. The 764 glyphs cover Latin, Latin Extended, Vietnamese and the Thai script. Cadson Demak leads the project, and the fonts are published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

## Where it works

- **Thai and Latin in one layout**: Both scripts were drawn together, so a page that mixes Thai script with English keeps one stroke weight and one tone.
- **Educational material**: The official notes single out educational work, where formal and informal content sit side by side.
- **Headlines in SemiBold and Bold**: The two heaviest weights carry titles, with ExtraLight and Light available for large, airy display lines.
- **Body text on screens**: Regular and Medium with their open shapes set paragraphs; the six-step range leaves room for captions and subheads.
- **Vietnamese-language pages**: The Vietnamese subset is included, so the stacked accents of Vietnamese are covered in every weight.

## Things to know

- **No italics**: Athiti has six upright weights and no italic styles.
- **Loopless Thai**: The Thai letters use the simplified loopless style, not the traditional looped forms used for formal text.
- **Similar Thai letterforms**: According to the official notes, some groups of Thai letters look alike in this design, which can cause confusion in very short texts.
