## About Antic

Antic is a sans serif typeface by Santiago Orozco, published under the Typemade name. The designer's notes describe it as the outcome of studying calligraphic forms: the letters drop the serifs but keep a pen-like stress of eight degrees, which he compares to the angle of his own handwriting. In the specimen that shows as strokes that thin slightly where curves meet stems, a light overall weight, and terminals cut at a slant on letters such as a, c and e. Capitals are narrow and the J and Q descend below the baseline. According to the same notes Antic is the sans member of a planned pair of text families, with a serif counterpart. This release is a single Regular style of 216 glyphs covering basic Latin, and it is not a variable font.

## Where it works

- **Short text on light layouts**: The thin, even strokes give paragraphs of a few lines an airy texture on portfolio and landing pages.
- **Captions and pull quotes**: The slight calligraphic stress keeps a caption from looking mechanical next to photographs.
- **Light headings**: Set large, the slanted terminals and descending J and Q become visible details.
- **English and Western European copy**: The 216 glyphs hold the accents needed for languages such as French, German and Spanish.

## Things to know

- **One weight**: Antic is Regular 400 only. There is no bold or italic, so emphasis needs size, colour or a second family.
- **Basic Latin subset**: The character set is the Latin subset without Latin Extended, Cyrillic or Greek.
- **A light regular**: The Regular weight is thin in the specimen; on low-contrast backgrounds it may need a larger size.
