## About Amiko

Amiko is a plain, utilitarian sans serif that covers the Devanagari and Latin scripts. The official notes describe its purpose narrowly: body text on the web and on low-resolution screens, legible at the smallest sizes that can be set. The specimen shows why it holds up there: strokes are nearly uniform, the lowercase is tall, counters are open and the letters are spaced generously. Amiko was drawn in a studio collaboration by Pablo Impallari, Andres Torresi and Rodrigo Fuenzalida, and the project is led by Impallari Type, a foundry based in Rosario, Argentina. The family has three static weights, Regular 400, SemiBold 600 and Bold 700, and no italics. Its 899 glyphs include the Devanagari character set as well as Latin and Latin Extended. Amiko is published under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

## Where it works

- **Hindi and English interfaces**: Devanagari and Latin drawn together let one family set labels and menus in both scripts without a change of texture.
- **Small text on low-resolution screens**: Open counters, a tall lowercase and loose spacing are the features the designers aimed at very small sizes.
- **Bilingual articles**: Regular for running text with SemiBold and Bold for subheads and emphasis covers a simple article hierarchy.
- **Captions and form hints**: Even stroke weight keeps footnotes, helper text and table labels readable where space is tight.

## Things to know

- **No italics**: Amiko ships as Regular, SemiBold and Bold only. Emphasis has to come from weight, not slant.
- **Static files**: The family is not a variable font; each of the three weights is a separate file.
- **Devanagari as a script, not a language list**: The font contains the Devanagari character set; only Latin-script languages are listed individually here.
